Ashdown Park Wins at G.D.B.A.

Developing People for Business Success

We are over the moon to announce that we won at the 10th Annual Gatwick Diamond Business Awards!

Our award, 'Developing People for Business Success', sponsored by Crawley College, is very special to us as our business is all about people, both our guests and staff.

Due to the range of skills needed to keep a hotel running smoothly, from Housekeepers and Chefs, to departments which are known as 'back of house' (teams which are critical to keeping the business moving forward but are not necessarily 'guest facing', such as accounts and marketing), mean there is a lot involved for the Personnel and Development team to tirelessly ensure that constant support and encouragement is given to every member of staff.

Thinking ahead: Not only does our Personnel and Development team work with current employees, they also engage with the local communities to raise awareness about the opportunities available within the hospitality industry. The team visits local schools and colleges and invites classes to visit the hotel. We also take students for work placements, with the aim to encourage their passion for the industry and giving them the chance to find their dream job.

General Manager Ben Booker had the following to say:

“I am delighted that the hard work and commitment from the Personnel and Development team at Ashdown Park has been recognised. It's our people who offer such great hospitality that makes our hotel the success it is today, which underlines the value of developing and supporting individuals whilst encouraging them to achieve their full potential."

The evening itself was the 10th annual Gatwick Diamond Business Award presentation, hosted by TV star Brian Connelly. Paul Coley, Group Personnel and Development Manager and Conference & Banqueting Manager Emilijano attended the ceremony and collected the award.

What is particularly delightful is receiving some of the feedback from one of the Judges for the award, Julie Kapsalis of Crawley College:

“Training is at the heart and core of the Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club. They offer a career path for their staff that spans every department and skill set. The Group MD himself embodies this passion - joining the company 30 years ago as a waiter and moving up the ladder and learning across every department.
“In a sector where retention rates can be challenging, this company is bucking the trend - securing huge loyalty and commitment from its staff to create the highest level of customer service.
“The apprentice Jack - sealed the win for this company. His eloquence, passion, demeanour and personal story blew the judges away & they are convinced he will become the Group FD one day.”
