Ladies Luncheon with Julian Roup

£47.50 per person

It is our pleasure to invite you to the next Ladies Luncheon to be held on Monday 19th September, where we will welcome guest speaker Julian Roup.

The event will begin at midday with an arrival welcome glass of Prosecco or freshly squeezed orange juice, followed by Julian's talk which will commence at 12.30pm.  A delicious seasonal three-course meal will follow, with one glass of wine per person and coffee with petit fours to finish.

Julian will be talking about his life as an author and sharing extracts from his book 'Into the Secret Heart of Ashdown Forest: A Horseman's Country Diary’, which is a love letter to the Ashdown Forest, after a forty-year affair. Wry, funny, moving and vivid, the memoir chronicles the life of the Julian and the ten square miles of the country he calls his Kingdom.

Julian's gift is the ability to take you deep into the landscapes that make the Ashdown Forest resonate in his heart: meeting its famous literary residents such as A.A, Milne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Ezra Pound and W.B. Yeats along the way. Be drawn into his story and truly get beneath the skin of the Ashdown Forest; hearing about the networks of fungi that allow the trees to speak, the foods it produces,  its locals, both the living and the ghosts, and see its huge importance during the year 2020-21 through the pandemic lockdowns.

Julian has close links with the Ashdown Forest Foundation and this luncheon really follows on from James’s talk in April about the forest history and sharing their plans for the future, as they head towards the 100-year anniversary of Winnie the Pooh.
